Week 3, July 2009

Although not an incredibly technical shoot, timing was everything! The session had to take place immediately following his body building competition. During the session I got a lesson on what a "chemistry set" the body becomes before competition, how carbs are cut 4 days before the event, and water cut 2 days before, all contributing to the "ripped" look. The science of the chemistry, and years of obviously intense training, gave him a second place finish in his class. Congrats!!

Anyone who knows my shooting style, knows that I love to get "out of the box" with my shoots and their locations. This one satisfied my craving for something edgy. The original discussions with the client included ideas of this being a studio shoot, or on location at his gym. When I suggested this location, I know the initial reaction was an uncertain one, but after the first few shots, we were in the groove, and ended up with a great set of images.

The recipe: Canon 5D MkII, 70-200/f4 L Series lens, ISO 400, F4, 1/320 second exposure
