Week 2, April 2006

Rebel

This image was originally created as part of portfolio session for an up and coming country artist, Sky Wyatt. His intent is to use the images for self promotion and possibly a CD cover.

Though this image was created a few months ago, it has found its way to my desktop again this week as part of my submission to this year's National Print Competition, otherwise known as a Salon.
Members of the Professional Photographers of Canada put there best work forward (4 images max. per photographer) to be judged, scrutinized and critiqued by a National judging panel. If the judges like the image, and "accept" it into the salon, it then goes on to be judged again against other images in the same category for trophy selection. Prints that the judges don't like, go back in the box and shipped back to the maker. If a photographer is fortunate enough to have 4 images "accepted" he/she is then eligible to voted Photographer of the Year.

Entering competition for me, is a little nerve wrecking. No one ever knows what a judge will see in an image. I've been fortunate to win a few awards over the years, but at the National level, I'm pleased to even have the images "accepted". This year's salon takes place in Halifax, in early May.
